Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center

Add to plan Remove from plan

Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center is located down the street from the Community Park at 1356 Ross Avenue next to the Nueces County Water District. At the entrance there is a native pollinator garden and many large trees with picnic tables. In the back a 700-foot-long ADA accessible boardwalk with an observation tower takes you over the freshwater wetlands for a close-up encounter with birds, alligators, fish and more. At the end of the boardwalk a 750-foot-long ADA accessible trail leads you trough a field of wildflowers around the edge of the saltmarsh. A bench under a mesquite tree is perfect for taking a rest and birdwatching. Leonabelle also has a free weekly Birding on the Boardwalk program from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Wednesday.
