Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center is located down the street from the Community Park at 1356 Ross Avenue next to the Nueces County Water District. At the entrance there is a native pollinator garden and many large trees with picnic tables. In the back a 700-foot-long ADA accessible boardwalk with an observation tower takes you over the freshwater wetlands for a close-up encounter with birds, alligators, fish and more. At the end of the boardwalk a 750-foot-long ADA accessible trail leads you trough a field of wildflowers around the edge of the saltmarsh. A bench under a mesquite tree is perfect for taking a rest and birdwatching.
Leonabelle also has a free weekly Birding on the Boardwalk program from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Wednesday.
